What bird lays the largest egg?

The Ostrich, the largest living bird in the world, also lays the biggest egg. Its egg is more than 2,000 times larger than the smallest bird egg, which is produced by the hummingbird. Ostrich eggs are about 7.1 inches long, 5.5 inches wide and typically weigh 2.7 pounds. The Ostrich egg will weigh 1600 - 2300 gm (about 3.5 to 5 pounds) and is equivalent in volume to 2 dozen chicken eggs.

The Hummingbird, which is also the smallest living bird in the world, lays the smallest eggs.  Hummingbird eggs are half an inch long, a third of an inch wide and weigh half a gram, or less than one-fifty-fifth of an ounce.
