Are there really no snakes in Hawaii?

If we are talking about deadly and venomous snakes, yes there are no such species in Hawaii that you might chance upon while hiking or doing outdoor activities. Such dangerous species are safely contained in zoos and are only displayed as live specimens.

There is also the harmless snake species, the Brahminy Blind Snakes (Ramphotyphlops braminus) which are minute and non-venomous. Since they do not pose any major threat,  they are mostly left to their own devices. See how small this species is on the video below.

What are the New 7 Wonders of Nature?

New7Wonders of Nature (2007-2011) was an initiative started in 2007 to create a list of seven natural wonders chosen by people through a global poll. It was led by Canadian-Swiss Bernard Weber and organized by the New7Wonders Foundation, a Swiss-based, government-controlled foundation.

To come up with the New 7 Wonders of Nature, the foundation urged citizens of the world to nominate sites which they deemed were natural wonders. Four hundred forty contenders came up and after a series of voting, the list was trimmed to 77. The group was then further cut to 28 by a panel of experts and then to the 14 finalists.

What is the world’s youngest nation?

The Republic of South Sudan holds the distinction of being the youngest nation in the world.  Formerly a part of the African country Sudan, South Sudan was declared as an independent nation last July 9, 2011.

South Sudan’s sovereignty officially breaks Africa’s largest nation into two.

What is the tallest statue on earth?

New York’s  Liberty and the Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro have nothing on Volgograd’s Motherland statue when it comes to height! The Motherland statue, depicted as a woman in billowy robes with a raised right hand holding a sword, stands 279 feet from the tip of its sword to the top of the plinth.  It was declared as the largest statue in the world when it was unveiled in 1967.

Perched on a hill in Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd, Russia, the massive concrete statue was built to commemorate the Russian victory of Stalingrad, which is the former name of Volgograd. During the Battle of Stalingrad,  the Russians defeated the Germans in one of the most important battles of World War II.

Which is the oldest nation On Earth?

The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, formerly known as Abyssinia is said to be the oldest nation in history.  It is said to be the only nation that can trace its independence back to before the time of Christ. In fact, Ethiopia is one of the oldest sites of human existence known to scientists today, having yielded some of humanity’s oldest traces.

Ethiopia was a monarchy for most of its history, and the Ethiopian dynasty traces its roots to the 2nd century BC. The rulers of Ethiopia have claimed descent from the biblical King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, who, according to legend, was actually the ruler of Ethiopia.
